Donald Trump Orders New Strikes on Iran as Peace Deal Collapses

Donald Trump ordered US forces to launch new “self-defense” strikes in southern Iran. This move comes after he shared a post claiming that negotiations with Iran are “proceeding nicely.” He also asked the Arab nations to sign the Abraham Accords and, through them, make diplomatic ties with Israel.

US conducts ‘self defense strike’ on Iran

US forces launched a series of “self-defense” strikes on Iran on Tuesday. The US Central Command representative, Captain Tim Hawkins, said that the strikes were conducted near Bandar Abbas. It targeted the Iranian boats laying mines and missile launch sites. It was reported that the strikes were launched to protect the US troops from the threat of Iranian forces.

Hawkins said, “U.S. Central Command continues to defend our forces while using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire.” According to a report, three explosions were heard near Bandar Abbas. This led to the deployment of Iran’s defense system, which they claim “has been activated to counter hostile targets.” The attacked place in question is considered an important Iranian naval and air base that’s located along the Strait of Hormuz.

This strike comes after Trump took to Truth Social to call on all the Arab nations to consider Iran as part of the Iran deal. He also further shared an update on negotiations. He wrote, “Negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are proceeding nicely! It will only be a Great Deal for all or, no Deal at all — Back to the Battlefront and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever before — And nobody wants that!”

The US state secretary, Marco Rubio, who is currently in India, has shared his take on the latest strikes over Iran. He called the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz “illegal and unlawful.”

“There were some talks going on in Qatar today, so we’ll see if we can make progress. I think it’s a lot of talking back and forth going on about specific language in the initial document, so it’ll take a few days. The president’s expressed his desire to make it. He’s either going to make a good deal or no deal,” Rubio spoke referring to the negotiations” (via Wionews).
