Spencer Pratt comparing himself to Barack Obama was apparently too much for “The View” hosts to process with straight faces. The panel openly laughed through parts of the conversation after discussing the former reality star’s latest comments about his Los Angeles mayoral ambitions.
The awkward comparison came after Pratt argued during a recent interview that his community experience was similar to Obama’s before the former president entered politics.
The View hosts couldn’t hold back when Spencer Pratt compared himself to Barack Obama
During Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” Sunny Hostin brought up Pratt’s recent remarks while discussing celebrity politicians and qualifications for public office, Decider reported.
“Spencer Pratt is now comparing himself to President Obama,” Hostin told the table.
Joy Behar immediately jumped in with a sarcastic response that sent the audience laughing.
“What? Snapchatter of the Year is not the same thing as head of the Law Review at Harvard?” Behar joked.
Hostin then read Pratt’s actual quote from an interview with NBC Los Angeles. In the interview, Pratt claimed Obama “didn’t even have any awards” during his community organizer days before eventually becoming a senator and president.
Naturally, the comparison did not exactly land smoothly on daytime television.
“Spencer Pratt, sir, you don’t have the same experience,” Hostin replied. She also pointed out that Obama graduated from Harvard Law School and served in the Senate before entering the White House.
Hostin suggested Pratt might want to start smaller politically, joking that City Council could be a better first step than running Los Angeles.
The former Hills villain announced his mayoral campaign earlier this year and has leaned heavily into outsider energy online. Pratt has spent years reinventing himself from chaotic reality TV troublemaker into a surprisingly successful social media personality alongside wife Heidi Montag.
Still, not everyone on “The View” completely dismissed the idea of celebrity politicians.
Sara Haines pointed out that plenty of traditionally qualified politicians with Ivy League degrees have still disappointed voters. Alyssa Farah Griffin also argued that having legal credentials does not automatically make someone effective in office.
Even so, Behar continued poking fun at Pratt’s résumé throughout the segment.
While comparing his credentials to current Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Behar noted Bass holds a JFK Profiles in Courage Award while Pratt’s standout achievement remained winning “Snapchatter of the Year” at the 2018 Shorty Awards.
