Stephen Colbert’s Replacement Speaks Out on Late Show Deal

With Stephen Colbert’s run coming to an end on CBS soon, Billionaire media mogul Byron Allen, who is buying Colbert’s slot, has spoken out about taking the place of the beloved host and comedian. In an interview, Allen claimed that he was not one hundred percent sure that the deal was going to work.

With Stephen Colbert heading for the exit in May as his long-running show comes to an end, Billionaire media mogul Byron Allen has bought the time slot where The Late Show used to air. But he is aware that it is a risky slot and might end up not working out for him.

“What we do is we keep the commercial time, and we sell it directly to the advertisers,” Allen told Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier. “I agreed to pay the network millions of dollars—tens of millions of dollars, OK—so this better work, or I’m going to be in front of your house in a tent.” Frazier joked, “That’s a lie because you have many houses.”

Allen’s ongoing show, Comics Unleashed, airs after The Late Show with Stephen Colbert at the moment. But the show will move up after The Late Show concludes. Allen will also keep the subsequent hour, which he already owns. He will run his other comedy series, Funny You Should Ask, in the second slot.

Allen hosts both shows, which means he will get a chunk of continuous time on air.

After the deal was announced on Monday, Byron Allen said, “I created and launched Comics Unleashed 20 years ago so my fellow comedians could have a platform to do what we all love—make people laugh. I truly appreciate CBS’s confidence in me by picking up our two-hour comedy block of Comics Unleashed and Funny You Should Ask, because the world can never have enough laughter (via The Daily Beast). ”

Meanwhile, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which has remained one of the most acclaimed talk shows over the past decade, will come to an end on May 21, 2026.
