Gavin Newsom has sharply criticized a proposed statue of Donald Trump. In a recent social media post, the California Governor compared the design to golden monuments of authoritarian leaders around the world.
Gavin Newsom reacts to Donald Trump’s gold statue
Gavin Newsom has slammed the rendered image of a gold statue of Trump, comparing it to statues of dictators around the world. The California Governor’s office made an X (formerly Twitter) post on Tuesday, sharing pictures of the proposed Trump statue along with edicts of North Korea’s Kim Il-Sung, Turkmenistan’s Saparmurat Niyazov, and former Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party Mao Zedong.
“The gold statue in Trump’s new library (of himself) looks awfully familiar to a few others from around the world,” Newsom’s post said.
The rendered Trump statue was first featured in a video shared by the President’s son, Eric Trump, on Monday. The clip features renders of a proposed project of the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library in Miami. One of the frames shows an auditorium with tiered seating facing a big golden statue of Trump, standing with his right fist raised above his head.
“FIRST LOOK: The Donald J. Trump Presidential Library is officially here. Over the past six months, I have poured my heart and soul into this project with my incredible team at @Trump,” Eric Trump wrote in the caption. “This landmark on the water in Miami, Florida, will stand as a lasting testament to an amazing man, an amazing developer, and the greatest President our Nation has ever known,” he added.
Shortly after Newsom criticized the digital Trump statue, White House Spokesman Davis Ingle clapped back at the California Governor. “Gavin Newscum is the worst and dumbest governor in America,” Ingle stated.
This isn’t the first time Newsom’s office has taken to social media comparing Trump to dictators. He has previously made X posts calling the President a “wanna-be dictator,” accusing him of cosplaying as one.
