Ryan Gosling has finally addressed long-running rumors about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor confirmed that conversations have taken place. He hinted that a popular anti-hero role could still be in play.
Ryan Gosling breaks silence on discussions with Marvel on this anti-hero role
Ryan Gosling isn’t shutting down speculation about stepping into the MCU. Speaking on a podcast, he revealed that talks have happened regarding playing Ghost Rider. While he didn’t go into specifics, his response made it clear the idea is still alive.
“Some discussions have been had,” Gosling said, adding, “It’s a complicated situation.” That careful wording suggests things are not finalized, but also not off the table. He has previously shown interest in the character, so this isn’t coming out of nowhere.
The character has a strong history on screen. Nicolas Cage famously played Johnny Blaze in the 2007 Ghost Rider film and returned for the 2011 sequel. Later, Gabriel Luna portrayed a different version, Robbie Reyes, in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. There were also plans for a standalone series, but that project was eventually scrapped.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has already shown interest in Gosling joining the franchise. Back in 2022, he said he would be happy to welcome him to the MCU, which only further fueled fan speculation. “Gosling’s unbelievable. Ryan is amazing…I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU. He’s dressed up as Ken on Venice Beach and gets more press than giant movies coming out that weekend. It’s amazing,” Feige said that time (via Variety).
Gosling also added a personal twist to the conversation. His partner, Eva Mendes, previously appeared alongside Cage in Ghost Rider. Reflecting on that connection, he joked, “I’m just happy one of us got to do it.” For now, he hasn’t confirmed anything.
Gosling has both indie gems and big Hollywood blockbusters to his name. He first caught major attention with The Notebook, then showed his edge in films like Drive and La La Land. He was also in Blade Runner 2049, taking on a more intense, sci-fi role. His latest project is Project Hail Mary, releasing on March 20, 2026.
