Classic ‘70s Sitcom Arrives on Prime Video Very Soon

All nine seasons of the classic 70s sitcom All in the Family are set to stream on Amazon Prime Video next week. Co-starring the late Rob Reiner, the series won 22 Primetime Emmy Awards throughout its run and spawned seven spin-offs.

All in the Family begins streaming on Prime Video this month

The Prime Video streaming date for Seasons 1-9 of All in the Family is Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

The show was based on the BBC’s 1965 sitcom Till Death Us Do Part. It follows the daily life of a working-class family from Queens, New York, led by Archie Bunker. Along with his wife, Edith, and kids, the family navigates everyday problems.

Norman Lear developed the show for CBS, where it aired from January 1971 through September 1978. He reportedly got the idea after reading about the British sitcom in a Variety magazine. After buying the rights to the show, Lear incorporated some of his own family experiences into it (via The New Yorker). It became one of the first shows on the network to address issues like racism, abortion, and the then ongoing Vietnam War.

All in the Family’s cast featured Carroll O’Connor as Archie, Jean Stapleton as Edith, Sally Struthers as Gloria, Rob Reiner as Michael, and Danielle Brisebois as Stephanie. The show also had an expansive supporting cast that included Sherman Hemsley as George Jefferson among others.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the show has an average user rating of 85% for nine seasons. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, it boasts an impressive 8.5 user score. During its eight years on air, the show earned a staggering 55 Primetime Emmy nominations, winning 22.

Following the show’s success, the network produced five direct spin-offs and two spin-offs of those spin-offs. One of the main spin-offs included Archie Bunker’s Place, which continued the events of the main series and ran for four seasons.

Reportedly, All in the Family drew an average of 50 million viewers each week, according to EBSCO. Furthermore, the series finale episode, titled “Too Good Edith,” was seen by 40.2 million viewers.

Amazon Prime Video subscribers can revisit the classic series later this month.
