Kid Rock Fires Back at Conan O’Brien Over 2026 Oscars Joke

Kid Rock is not laughing at a recent Oscars moment. The singer pushed back after Conan O’Brien took a jab at him during the 2026 Academy Awards, calling the joke a miss. The moment played out during Conan O’Brien’s opening monologue at the Academy Awards. The host cracked a joke, saying anyone tired of political talk could switch to an “alternate Oscars” supposedly hosted by Kid Rock at a nearby Dave & Buster’s. The punchline clearly took a swipe at the singer’s recent ties to a political-themed event (via EW).

Kid Rock didn’t stay quiet for long. He responded on social media the next day, saying he enjoys a solid joke, even when he’s the target, but admitted this one didn’t really land for him. “I love a good joke, even when I am the butt of it; unfortunately, this was not a very good one,” Kid Rock wrote. While brushing off the jab, he used the moment to promote his upcoming “Freedom 250” tour, which celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.

The joke ties into a bigger picture. Kid Rock recently performed at Turning Point USA’s “All-American Halftime Show,” which was pitched as an alternative to Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance. That event pulled in around 6 million live viewers, and the replay later crossed 21 million views online. In comparison, Bad Bunny’s official halftime video racked up roughly 125 million views.

Kid Rock had also weighed in on the performance earlier. He said he couldn’t really follow most of it, adding that it leaned more on visuals and choreography than anything else. While he made it clear he didn’t blame Bad Bunny for taking the spotlight, he did question the NFL for making that call. O’Brien’s monologue didn’t stop with Kid Rock. He also poked fun at Timothée Chalamet and Ted Sarandos during the ceremony. Still, it was the Kid Rock joke that sparked the most direct response after the show.
