California Governor Gavin Newsom recently stated that the state will lead a lawsuit against RFK Jr and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention over the overhaul of childhood vaccines. In January, the CDC and Kennedy Jr announced a change to the schedule of child vaccines. This led them to reduce the number of shots administered to kids.
Gavin Newsom announces lawsuit against RFK Jr.
Gavin Newsom recently took to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account to announce a lawsuit against Health and Human Services Secretary RFK Jr (Robert F Kennedy Jr) regarding the CDC’s declaration of change in child vaccines.
The California governor wrote, “California is helping lead a multi-state lawsuit against RFK Jr. and the CDC for illegally removing 7 childhood vaccines from the federal list of universally recommended shots. We’re not sitting back while the Trump Administration threatens kids with preventable diseases.”
Newsom also released a statement conveying that 15 states are involved in the lawsuit. He added, “California is going back to court because the Trump administration is violating federal law and pushing a reckless, unscientific childhood vaccine schedule that puts kids’ lives at risk. These changes ignore decades of medical evidence and will lead to outbreaks of diseases we’ve already beaten. We will not stand by while politics overrides science and endangers our children. Just as we’ve done before, we’re standing up — alongside 14 other states — to defend the law, protect public health, and keep our kids safe.”
CDC and Kennedy Jr announced last month that after the schedule changes, children will be administered 11 vaccines instead of 18. The vaccines that were removed from the schedule were for illnesses like rotavirus, COVID-19, influenza, hepatitis B, meningococcal disease, hepatitis A, and respiratory syncytial virus (also known as RSV).
