Travis Kelce & Patrick Mahomes Reportedly Sued for Trademark Infringement

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are reportedly being sued for trademark infringement by a sneaker company over their similar names. The Chiefs tight end and quarterback, as well as their business partner Noble, were reportedly named in a lawsuit by 1587 Sneakers for trademark infringement for naming their shared steakhouse restaurant, 1587 Prime, after official jersey numbers. Kelce’s jersey number is 87, and Mahomes’ is 15.

1587 Sneakers has reportedly sued Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes’ 1587 Prime over trademark infringement. 1587 Sneakers co-founder Adam King said in a statement, “From the onset, we have communicated a sincere belief that there is room for mutual respect and understanding. That belief has not changed, and we continue to hope to resolve this matter amicably” (via ESPN).

In the lawsuit, the sneaker brand alleged that the Chiefs’ players’ restaurant name infringes on its brand’s name. Kelce and Mahomes launched their joint business venture, 1587 Prime, in Kansas City on September 17 last year, coinciding with Mahomes’ 30th birthday (via PEOPLE).

The Chiefs’ tight end and quarterback not only play on the same team but are also good friends. Hence, it comes as no surprise that they launched a steakhouse with their jersey numbers. According to ESPN, the lawsuit states that 1587 Sneakers started selling its shoes in April 2023, at least two years prior to Kelce and Mahomes opening their restaurant.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is reportedly reviewing 1587 Sneakers’ application. Interestingly, the sneaker brand applied for a trademark in October 2025, a month after Kelce and Mahomes launched their steakhouse. The Chiefs’ tight end and quarterback applied for their trademark in December 2023.

Although both businesses come under different categories, the sneaker company has alleged apparel infringement because the steakhouse sells merchandise featuring the numbers “15” and “87.” The shoe brand has alleged that “scores of customers” have reached out to 1587 Sneakers, believing that they are related to Kelce and Mahomes’ 1587 Prime.

According to the lawsuit, the sneaker company wants the restaurant to stop using this name altogether, as it has caused major confusion among fans.
