The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg has sent a strong reply to Donald Trump after the current president incited a controversy by posting an offensive AI video featuring the Obama couple and other Democratic Party politicians. The comedy veteran not only slammed Trump for his distasteful attempt at humor but also highlighted that his joke had no factual basis.
Whoopi Goldberg calls out Donald Trump
During the February 9 episode of The View, Goldberg called out Trump for the Lion King-themed clip he had shared with the intention of poking fun at his political and ideological rivals.
“You know, I don’t know why you feel the need to poop on everything. The Lion King is a great kids’ film full of all kinds of amazing characters,” the Sister Act star said before adding, “And the idea that you think posting something isn’t really from The Lion King…There are no apes in The Lion King, and I just would like y’all at least once, once in your administration, to check your facts, check your stuff. You know, just check.”
Goldberg, who lent her voice to the character of Shenzi in the Disney animated classic, also noted, “I know it’s dumb, I know it’s ridiculous, but because I was in The Lion King, I just feel like y’all could do a better job.”
Notably, the since-deleted AI video depicted Barack and Michelle Obama as apes, while Donald Trump chose to showcase himself as a lion. Former president Joe Biden and Whoopi Goldberg also featured in Trump’s crude edit, coming in as a monkey and a hippopotamus, respectively.
Responding to her inclusion in the AI snippet, Goldberg taunted, “Just be aware – hippos will kill you faster than a lion in the wild. Hippos lay on you, and you’re gone. They chase you…If you’re going to make fun of folks, just make up your own stuff and admit that you did it.”
The View’s Sunny Hostin backed her co-host’s sentiments about Trump by stating, “The Obamas live rent-free in [Trump’s] head, because he knows he will never be as excellent.” Claiming that the businessman-turned-politician “will never have the Nobel Peace Prize,” Hostin noted, “He’s just a deeply small man.”
