A familiar face on Chicago Fire will temporarily step away from the action, just as a new character prepares to take on a commanding role at Firehouse 51. NBC has confirmed a shift in casting for the back half of Season 14, with one series regular going on hiatus and a new recurring actor stepping in.
Dermot Mulroney to go on a break after Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 14
Dermot Mulroney, who portrays Battalion Chief Dominick “Dom” Pascal on NBC’s Chicago Fire, will exit the show temporarily following Episode 14 of Season 14. His character is expected to return near the end of the season, though scripts for those final episodes have not yet been finalized, as per Deadline.
Mulroney’s final appearance before the break will include participation in the One Chicago crossover event in Episode 13, which airs Wednesday, March 4 from 8–11 p.m. ET/PT. His hiatus is part of the character’s ongoing storyline and is not related to off-screen circumstances.
Mulroney joined Chicago Fire in July 2024 following Eamonn Walker’s exit as Chief Boden. He also stars as a series regular on Netflix’s The Hunting Wives, which began filming its second season in November and plans to premiere later this year.
Rob Morgan cast as new Battalion Chief in Chicago Fire Season 14
Rob Morgan will join Chicago Fire in a recurring role as Battalion Chief Hopkins, beginning with Episode 16 of Season 14. The character will appear in four episodes, including the season finale.
Hopkins carries a long, haunted past from overseeing several firehouses and quickly asserts authority over his peers. The storyline will introduce Hopkins while Pascal remains off-screen, placing him in a leadership role at Firehouse 51.
Morgan built his reputation with roles in Mudbound, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, and Netflix’s Marvel series. He recently starred in The Rivals of Amziah King, which premiered at SXSW and will release theatrically this summer. His upcoming film Frank & Louis will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Elysian Heights and Fox Rothchild represent Morgan.
