Many soccer fans are looking for a Pedri injury update after the FC Barcelona midfielder was taken out of the game against Slavia Prague on Wednesday, January 21. While the team eventually came away with a 4-2 win, Pedri was removed from the field in the second half with what appeared to be a right hamstring injury, which was later confirmed after the match. Here’s how long it is expected to take for Pedro González to recover.
When is Pedro González ‘Pedri’ expected to return?
Team doctors for FC Barcelona led by Lucas Gómez have confirmed that Pedri will likely return in four weeks. This concurs with initial assessments that he had a hamstring injury, which normally takes somewhere between three weeks and five weeks to heal.
A statement from the team confirmed that the first team player sustained the hamstring injury on Wednesday and that “the recovery time is expected to be one month.” Barring any complications, this means that Pedri will return at some time in late February.
“The number eight is undoubtedly a key cog in the FC Barcelona midfield,” the statement read, “and is showing it once again this season as he is heavily involved in much of the Blaugranes’ play.”
It should be noted that Pedri had a similar injury in October 2025, but the hamstring injury sustained at that time was in his left leg. This means that this injury is new and not a relapse. That said, he did miss another game in December due to a calf issue.
This unexpected absence from the team’s star player means that he will be missing approximately seven to nine games, including several home matches in LaLiga on Sunday when they face off against Real Oviedo. Along with the suspension of fellow midfielder Frenkie de Jong, Barça will have a tougher time scoring a win over the next month and securing their place in the round of 16.
