During the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, host Nikki Glaser took a lighthearted jab at this year’s nominees and others.
One of Glaser’s first jokes targeted Hollywood celebrities as a whole. She said, “I cannot believe the amount of star power we have in this room tonight—it’s insane. There are so many A-listers. By A-listers, I mean people who are on the A-list that has been heavily redacted.”
She added, “The Golden Globes for the best editing goes to the Justice Department. And the award for most editing goes to CBS News. CBS News—America’s newest place to see BS news.”
The stand-up comedian turned her attention to the nominees. She mentioned The Rock, who was nominated for his portrayal of Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine. “The Rock is here for The Smashing Machine. The Rock is nominated tonight, and luckily for him, the TV show, The Paper, is not. So, he might win,” Glaser joked, adding that the joke was a “fun one” to perform.
The Trainwreck actress then turned to comedian Kevin Hart, calling him “The Rock’s plus one half.” She continued. “I love you, Kevin. You’re so funny. You and The Rock together are like my favorite comedy duo—such a classic comedy duo. You’re like Steve Martin and Martin Short, but for people under 50 IQ.”
The Emmy-nominated comedian followed up with a jab at both actors, asking, “‘Jumanji: The Next Level.’ Was it?”
George Clooney was not spared either. While Glaser admitted to being a fan of the actor, she nonetheless asked him to fix her espresso machine. She said, “My espresso is coming out watery. I’m wondering, is it like a pod issue, or do you think it might be the filter? Could you troubleshoot it for me later? Thank you so much. Good luck, si señor.”
She also roasted Michael B. Jordan, who was nominated for his role in Sinners, saying, “In Sinners, Michael played two brothers. Am I allowed to say that?” Glaser then corrected herself, saying, “He played twins. I can’t believe it, we got two Michael B. Jordans. When I saw that, I was like, ‘Nikki be jerkin’ because that was awesome.”
The comedian quipped, “I’m sorry, Michael. Why did I make that joke? I know your mom. I’m so sorry. I should not have said that to you; that should’ve been a DM. My mistake.”
Lastly, she joked about Timothée Chalamet. “Not a lot of people know this, but Timothée Chalamet is the first actor in history to put on muscle for a movie about ping pong. He gained over 60 ounces. It’s insane,” Glaser joked.
