DJs seem to be getting younger by the BPM, which is just one reason why Sumiko Iwamuro is a breath of fresh air. Al Jazeera did a feature on its Facebook page (see below) on the 82-year-old who is a dumpling cook by day and a club DJ by night.

Sumiko is a late bloomer to the DJ game, who started working the “ones and twos” in her 70’s after spending a year learning the practice at a DJing school.

“It’s fundamentally techno music, but that would just be boring so I add jazz, French chanson and today I’ve added a bit of classical,” says Iwamuro, whose monthly gigs attract club goers who could be her great-grandkids.

Check out the video clip below, showing Sumiko making dumplings in the Chinese restaurant she owns with her brother before playing a packed nightclub at her monthly residency.

Let’s see 20-year-old Martin Garrix do that.
