Weighing In: Anthony Mundine, Shane Mosley Finish Formalities

Boxing veterans Anthony Mundine and Shane Mosley are less than 24 hours out from their WBA super welterweight bout after successfully completing Tuesday’s weigh-in.

Their first showdown last month fell apart in dramatic fashion when five-time world champ Mosley bailed from Sydney after his $1 million purse wasn’t paid, but both fighters looked all business at Sydney’s press conference.

Mundine didn’t offer more than a few word answers at Monday’s pre-fight press conference, but was back to his usual talkative self on Tuesday, even sharing a chuckle with Mosley during their stare off.

“I’m in tip-top condition. It’s just a matter of executing my boxing better than what he does on the night, and doing certain things in the game plan to get the victory.

“I believe I’m going to win, with all due respect to Shane. I just think the time in our careers right now, that I’m the better man. ”

Both fighters haven’t been in the ring much over in recent years. Mundine has fought twice in the past two years while Mosley just three times in 37 months, his last win since 2009 coming in impression fashion against 23-year old, top-10 welterweight Pablo Cesar Cano earlier this year.

Mundine requires a win in order to certify his legacy in Australian boxing history. He hasn’t taken on a fighter of Mosley’s quality in at least eight years and hasn’t fought since a January loss to Daniel Geale, making this the longest layoff (11 months) of his career.

“I believe I’m going to win,” he said.

“I mean, listen, I’ve got all due respect to Shane. I just think right now, the times in our career right now, I’m the better man but that’s what’s so intriguing about the fight.”
