The Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus have been unveiled, with the tech manufacturer making the bold claim that the new device will “change smartphone photography forever.”

The two new flagship smartphones will feature twin rear-facing cameras, created by renowned optics enterprise Leica. These 12-megapixel cameras  in tandem to produce better low-light and black and white images, with one of them taking photos in monochrome and the other in color. They also provide a faster focus and improved depth of field, with a 1.25-micron pixel size and a wide F/1.1 aperture, along with a laser focusing module and optical image stabilization to allow for steadier video capture. For the selfie lover, the phones house an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, too.

The camera also fits in nicely with the P9’s design, with there being no “bump” on its rear, blending in perfectly with the device’s slim build. They’re sizable smartphones, too, with the P9 measuring in at 5.2 inches, 0.5 inches above the standard iPhone 6, and the P9 Plus sharing the same measurements as the iPhone 6 Plus at 5.5 inches. Both screens boast a resolution of 1080p, though the P9 Plus makes use of a superior AMOLED screen.

Underneath the hood, both devices will run on Huawei’s Kirin 955 chipset, with a 2.5GHz octa-core CPU for the quad-Cortex-A72 cluster, while the quad-Cortex-A53 is set at 1.8GHz. The P9 has the option of a lower-end model that features 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, along with a premium 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage model, while the P9 Plus has only the latter option available. Both will allow for additional microSD storage.

The P9 Plus has a few advantages over its smaller model, with it having an increased, 3,400mAH battery compared to the P9’s 3,000mAH. It also features stereo speakers, with the output adjusting depending upon the orientation of the phone: hold it upright and the treble comes out of the top speaker, bass comes out of the bottom.

With the Huawei P9 having been unveiled in London, thus far it has only received UK and European pricing, with the 32GB model of the P9 retailing at £449 and the P9 Plus costing £549. In the rest of Europe, the same model of the P9 will cost €599 while the P9 Plus will set you back  €749. The smaller model will be available across 29 countries in Europe and the Middle East on April 16th, while the P9 Plus will make its way to retail on May 20th.
