Google Hires 4chan Founder Chris ‘Moot’ Poole

4chan founder Chris Poole, known as “Moot” on the image board, has revealed that he has now been hired by Google.

Poole launched 4chan in 2003, before stepping down from his role as the site’s administrator in January 2015. In September 2015, it was announced that Hiroyuki Nishimura, the founder of the hugely popular Japanese message board 2channel, had purchased the board from him for an undisclosed amount.

While Poole has been mostly quiet since these events, he has now revealed on his blog that he is set to embark upon a new career with Google, though hasn’t stated his role within the tech company.

Poole’s full statement reads:

“Today I’m excited to announce that I’ve joined Google.

When meeting with current and former Googlers, I continually find myself drawn to their intelligence, passion, and enthusiasm — as well as a universal desire to share it with others. I’m also impressed by Google’s commitment to enabling these same talented people to tackle some of the world’s most interesting and important problems.

I can’t wait to contribute my own experience from a dozen years of building online communities, and to begin the next chapter of my career at such an incredible company.”

It remains to be seen how Poole will contribute to the search engine giant, though it has been suggested that he could potentially be joining their Google+ team, given that he references “building online communities” in the post. We should expect to hear more information regarding his role in the near future.
