Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is Now More Popular Than Call of Duty

Twitch now has an active user base of over 60 million fans. It has grown from being a platform that only gamers are familiar with, to one that is looked at as a barometer for success. Now more than ever developers are looking for ways to make their games more friendly to live streaming sites like Twitch. Some have had more success than others.

EEDAR’s latest chart shows a list of the most popular games on Twitch. For all intents and purposes, it’s an indication of what the most popular games are in the world (primarily North American and Europe, to be fair). At the very least the games that ranked higher on the list are the biggest spectacles in gaming, making gamers want to put down their controllers and mice to watch games instead of play them.

There are a few facts that stand out from the chart. For one, League of Legends has twice as much view volume versus the second entry on the list, Dota 2. As a matter of fact, it is responsible for 26% of traffic on Twitch. Also, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive‘s recent updates and big tournaments have turned it into the fourth most watched game in the world. It is now the most popular FPS, surpassing Call of Duty with more than 400,000 concurrent players at any given time, and a view volume of well over a hundred million per month.
