Mario is seemingly confused about his origins, as a new alternate outfit for Super Smash Bros. sees him wearing the red, white and blue colors of the American flag.
Despite being an Italian plumber created by a Japanese developer, Mario’s alternate outfit in the upcoming Wii U brawler has him slipping into a dungaree/shirt/hat combo that even the most ardent of patriots would deem a little over the top.
The new outfit was revealed on the official Smash Bros. Twitter page, and as Kotaku has noted, it closely resembles the outfit Mario wears in NES Open Tournament Golf.
The image also shows off a new, metallic silver outfit for Samus, which is a lot easier on the eyes than Mario’s new get-up.
Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3Ds is set to release on October 3rd.
