The Weeknd Arrested For Hitting Police Officer In Las Vegas

Canadian R&B rapper The Weeknd was arrested over the weekend in Las Vegas for apparently striking a police officer.

The incident occurred at the Cromwell Hotel, where The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) was involved in a fight. According to The Associated Press, “Las Vegas Police Officer Laura Meltzer says 24-year-old Abel Tesfaye was arrested early Saturday in a Las Vegas Strip hotel on suspicion of misdemeanor battery of a protected person. He was taken to the Clark County Detention Center, but wasn’t listed on the jail roster on Monday. Meltzer says police were trying to break up a fight on one of the floors when Tesfaye hit an officer on the side of the head with a closed fist.”

The Weeknd has recently risen to fame for being featured on the track “Love Me Harder” with Ariana Grande. The Toronto native is also featured on the soundtrack for the highly anticipated movie “50 Shades of Grey.” In 2014 The Weeknd received the Allan Slaight Award at Canada’s Walk of Fame as well as was nominated for a Grammy, three MuchMusic Video Awards, and a Juno. He headlined the King of the Fall tour as well.
