Lostprophets’ Ian Watkins on ‘Suicide Watch’ Following Child Sex Charges

Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins is on suicide watch as he is set to face trial for 23 sexual offences later this year.

Watkins was arrested last year and charged for multiple extreme sex offences, including conspiring to rape a one-year-old, conspiring to abuse two young children, making, possessing and distributing indecent images and possessing animal pornography. According to the Independent, Watkins appeared at a pre-court hearing yesterday (August 12th) via video link, with his barrister Sailly O’Neill informing the court that he a clinical psychologist had recommended that he should be moved to a psychiatric hospital and receive anti-psychotic medication.

“He has been seen by a clinical psychologist and she believes he should be receiving anti-psychotic medication,” O’Neill said. “She wants him to be taken to a secure hospital for assessment and treatment. He is on suicide watch five times an hour.”

Watkins denies all the charges leveled against him, although one of his co-defendants, a 20-year-old female who cannot be named for legal reasons, has admitted to sexually touching a child and distributing images of her doing so. Watkins’ other co-defendant, a 24-year-old female, also denies the charges.

Watkins is set to appear before court in November.
