Scooby-Doo Live-Action Reboot in the Works at Warner Bros.

It’s only been two days since Casey Kasem, the voice of Scooby-Doo, passed away from Lewy body dementia. So naturally Warner Bros. has decided it’s time for a reboot. Classy, Hollywood. Real classy.

Granted, we’re confident that plans were underway to restart the live-action Scooby-Doo movie franchise well before last weekend, but the timing is downright unpleasant and may throw a pall over the quite possibly welcome news. The first two live-action movies made money, but were hardly runaway hits by modern standards, and effectively pissed off old school Scooby-Doo fans by subverting the television series’ secular message and claiming that even though the Scooby Gang spent years proving that monsters, urban legends and the afterlife were all fictional, all of the above superstitions were actually real.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has tapped newcomer Randall Green to script the Scooby-Doo reboot, which is expected to ignore the previous films entirely and completely recast the Scooby Gang. James Gunn, who wrote the first two Scooby-Doo live-action features, seems unlikely to return in any capacity now that he’s the big time director of Guardians of the Galaxy.
