ROH TV Ep 345 Recap: Chuckie T v. Josh Woods, Sumie Sakai v. Stella Grey, Flip Gordon v. Silas Young For TV Title

We cut to Cody and Brandi. Cody asks Brandi who her favorite wrestler is and without hesitation says “The American Nightmare.” She asks Cody the same question and he says Dalton Castle. Revolted, she asks why and Cody says he needs the fans. He’s not going to be a keyboard warrior that writes of Castle as a failure champion like they did with Bob Backlund in the 1970s. He likes Dalton Castle and Brandi says he had a great match with Jay Lethal. Cody beat Jay Lethal, and he also beat Kenny “Ho-mega” according to Brandi. Cody asks where does that leave us? Brandi does the Aaron Rodgers belt taunt which leads to Cody asking if she’s pregnant. No, she means the world title as she kisses the ring and Cody laughs.

Love it. You don’t totally know where Cody is going when these segments start, but it always leads to a satisfying conclusion. Classic promo stuff that hearkens to Terry Funk. Him patronizing Dalton is a perfect teaser to wanting to see these two duke it out.

We see The Kingdom as they congratulate SoCal Uncensored, The Young Bucks & Flip Gordon for their performance at Supercard, but none of them left with titles except for The Kingdom.

MATCH 2: Stella Grey vs. Sumie Sakai

Stella Grey cuts an in-set promo saying she’s been studying and she’s been watching for many years and Sumie hasn’t seen anything from her. Jenny Rose is on commentary. Bell rings and “Code of Honor” adhered. Ian mentions that there was no handshake for Sumie from Jenny at Masters Of The Craft. Sumie delivers a front missile dropkick to Grey and gives Stella a northern lights suplex for two as the ref checked to see if Grey’s shoulders were down. Grey hits an impactful spear for a near fall. The two climb the turnbuckle before Sumie pedal stomps her down in the corner. Stella eventually hits a top rope tornado DDT. She wrist suplexes Sumie for a two count. Sakai hits a saito suplex for two. Sumi goes for a fisherman suplex but Grey shifts momentum for a small package roll-up that teases a near upset. Sakai hits a Smash Mouse for the win.

Winner: Sumie Sakai via pinfall after 4 minutes.

After the match, Jenny Rose climbs into the ring to congratulate Sumie. She’s sorry she wasn’t able to celebrate with her in NOLA, but they haven’t always been on the same page as she cuts to a clip of Manhattan Mayhem as Sumie gets shoved into Jenny. Rose says she wants to be the first to challenge Sakai for the WOH Women’s Championship. Sumie says she loves Jenny, but she will fight her. She”s happy she challenged her and Sumie goes for a handshake, but Jenny does not accept.

Quick bout to get Sumie over, but Stella Grey, even despite just four minutes came off as credible competition. This was more to lead into an angle with Jenny Rose as a heel adversary to Sakai.
