The so-called Greatest Royal Rumble this past Friday afternoon was in many ways the hybrid of a glorified house show and WrestleMania, meeting somewhere in the middle and not really managing to amount to all that much in the grand scheme of things, but accomplishing a lot.

It’s a weird situation where WWE undoubtedly views it as a success, but if you boil down some of the individual components, they can be picked apart and really chastised.

Personal positives and negatives, along with all the subjectivity that come with that pushed aside, there were still some standout moments on this event that were either memorable, important, or something WWE will assuredly want to beat the drum to come the next editions of Raw and SmackDown.

Let’s take a look at some of those biggest takeaways which transpired and how they might factor into what’s heading our way.

The Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns Situation

For the fourth time, Roman Reigns was unsuccessful in capturing the championship currently held by Brock Lesnar.

At this point, WWE has to move on and can’t just continue this story even further and give Reigns yet another title opportunity without really upsetting audiences, yet it seems like that might be the case.

Without dropping the title here, it further illustrates that Lesnar is likely sticking around until at least SummerSlam, since he can just go take a few months off while the co-branded events have plenty of other, big stars to make people interested in watching, and he can focus on preparing for his UFC ventures.

You’d think a new challenger would be built up in the process, but the ending was ambiguous enough that it left open the possibility that WWE could pull out the “tainted victory means another match” card and award Reigns another shot because, from a certain angle, he fell out of the cage and hit the ground first.

This would be a horrendous mistake, but it’s something we need to prepare ourselves for, as the potential is there.

Otherwise, it’s looking like Reigns will just be in the Money in the Bank ladder match, but maybe that is exactly how he gets that title shot to begin with.

Either way, Lesnar isn’t dropping the belt at Backlash, so we need to start thinking about where the future of the Universal Championship is heading.
