On how difficult it was for Ted Sr. to listen to his wife talk to his son, Ted Jr., about his infidelities:

TD: It’s been years but to go through it it’s kind of like I was on the receiving end of forgiveness. It’s a little easier for me but for my wife to go through it and watch the story it’s like she is reliving it. She was the one who had to forget. I don’t think it’s a place you want to go back to too often. You want to learn from the experience and you want to go on. For my boys a lot of these questions came up as a result of doing the documentary.

On if his mother was resistant to opening up about his father Ted Sr.’s infidelities:

TDJ: I’d be lying if I said she wasn’t resistant. The biggest thing for my Mom is that she just kept saying, “I don’t want to be seen as a hero. I am not a hero.” I kept calling her and saying, “You are the hero. Overcoming and turning a dream into a reality, that’s inspiring, but to have the courage to stick with your family, forgive your husband and show him unconditional love. To show your children that kind of example instead of just throwing the towel in and taking the easy way out. Just moving on and saying, “I’m not going to fight for what I love the most.” My Mom did quite the opposite. She’s quite an inspiration to me. It’s nasty stuff. Everyone has demons. Everyone has skeletons in the closet. For us, being in the lime light, it’s important for us to share those things so that, hey, if you’re struggling and your family has some issues… I’ve been there. I’ve lost loved ones. I’ve lost a child. My Dad cheated on my Mom. We talk about it in this film and we also have some really great things. There is hope, overcoming and redemption.
