Earlier this week photos began to circulate that appeared to be of the Undertaker on a plane, making his way to New York, the site of tonight’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view. Dave Meltzer confirmed on the most recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that so far that he knows, the Dead Man IS actually in town for this weekend’s events.
While it was speculated by Dave and Bryan Alvarez that ‘Taker could appear at SummerSlam, most likely to cost Roman Reigns and/or Brock Lesnar the WWE Universal Championship in the main event, it’s just as likely he is in town to record footage for a video package or the upcoming WWE 2K18 video game. It could also be as simple as him and his wife Michelle McCool wanting to come out and spend time with old friends during one of the biggest weekends of the year for the company.
That being said, the company has been pushing the story of Roman Reigns “retiring” or “ending the career of” the Undertaker at WrestleMania pretty hard in recent months. It was assumed that was just a way to put him over as more of a viable threat to the Universal Championship and to opponents like Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman, but it seems they’ve doubled down on the rhetoric in recent weeks heading into SummerSlam.
I guess what we’re saying is, the Undertaker is in town. We don’t suggest getting your hopes up, but anything is possible. Either way, you’re not going to want to miss tonight’s stacked SummerSlam pay-per-view live on the WWE Network. Make sure to join us, kicking off with the two hour pre-show at 5:00 PM EST!
