NPR Looks at Jinder Mahal’s Anti-American WWE Gimmick
NPR recently did an audio piece on Jinder Mahal and his anti-American gimmick as the WWE Champion. The piece references Mahal’s size and blunt critique of American supremacy as tools which lead him to the WWE Title.
The piece then discussed other anti-American gimmicks WWE has used in the past, citing Muhammad Hassan infamously praying on the entrance ramp during a Smackdown taping while masked men choked out The Undertaker. The piece reminded listeners that the moment came around the same time as the London transit system bombing, and WWE dropped the Hassan character soon after following network and fan pressure.
