Former WWE Ref Talks The Growing Roster & Who Might Struggle With That

Jimmy Korderas, former WWE ref of over 20 years, wrote a new blog on CSRWrestling.com about the growing WWE roster. Here’s an excerpt:

Fans are greatly excited to see the likes of AJ Styles as #1 contender to the WWE title. They are happy to see Cesaro as the #1 contender to the IC title. The debuts of Enzo & Cass, Apollo Crews, Baron Corbin and the former Bullet Club members, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson have the wrestling world buzzing. The main roster is bursting at the seams with fresh talent and new rivalries. Although it is nice to think that they all will make a major impact on RAW or SmackDown, the truth is not everyone making the jump will succeed on the big stage. It’s just reality.

Take Apollo Crews for example. Has he got a good look? Yes! Is he talented in the ring? Absolutely! The problem I have with him is we have yet to see any personality from Crews. I realize he has only been up for two weeks but other that his in ring ability, why should I care about him? I want to know more about him. I preach to fans to be patient and not rush things but introducing guys cold without the benefit of pre-debut vignettes makes it more difficult for the casual fan to connect. Hardcore fans already know who these guys are but what they refuse to understand is that they are not the only ones watching.

The guy that has the biggest question mark hanging over his head is Baron Corbin. He has the size and look that the WWE likes from its superstars. Those who subscribe to the WWE network have seen him in developmental for quite some time. He has progressed in his development but it has been a slow process. He still has a way to go and he will get there but will he establish that elusive connection with the audience? Time will tell if he does. I would like to see him run through opponents for the foreseeable future. A slow build for Corbin will be most beneficial. He just needs to be level headed and understand that it is a marathon not a sprit and that he is a long term project. If he can be patient and accept walking before running, he should be just fine. He may even experience some of the obstacles that Roman Reigns is currently experiencing with the WWE Universe not being an “internet darling.”  I believe in the long run that will actually be a positive and not a negative for his career.
