Brian will be co-hosting WrestleZone Daily tomorrow at Noon EST with more details about the upcoming film.
WTF, or “World Thumb Wresting Federation” is a recently produced feature film, depicting the heart, passion and soul of wrestling and its fans, which is told humorously through the scope of thumb wrestling. Seen through the lens of a documentary crew, WTF plays out similar to a Christopher Guest film (Best in Show, A Mighty Wind) and is inspired by many of the ESPN 30 for 30 collection. The film follows a collection of amateur and pro thumb wrestlers as they embark on attempting to win the sports biggest event, the Thumble Rumble.
The movie focuses on the Brussel Brothers, thumb wrestling royalties who’s father, Papa Brussel, was once the world champion of the sport. Papa Brussel’s rein abruptly came to an end 5 years prior to the filming of WTF, when he died during a controversial match against their much hated rival Mr. Venom. Now, the Brussel Brothers are determined to beat Mr. Venom in the championship round of this year’s Thumble Rumble to restore their legacy and help revitalize the sport before the arena gets turned into a new restaurant chain called Camel Toes. Their secret weapon: Kenny “The Prodigy”, the youngest of the brothers who has spent his entire life trying to get away from the sport, but now must embrace his natural talent and get his family name back on top.
The film stars Debra Wilson (MADtv, Avatar), Eddie Jemison (Ocean’s 11, 12, 13), John Hennigan (Johnny Mundo), Samm Levine (Freaks and Geeks), and many more. WTF is produced by MORE Productions (Summerland Project, B Roll). Filming just wrapped in Los Angeles and will be premiering 2016.
