Jon Moxley Advances To Interim AEW World Title Match At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Kyle O’Reilly came one close to clinching his spot in a match for the Interim AEW World Championship on the June 8 episode of AEW Dynamite, but Jon Moxley ultimately advanced to the Interim AEW World Championship bout at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

To kick things off on Wednesday night, Kyle O’Reilly outlasted 2o other competitors to win the Casino Battle Royale. As a result, he advanced to tonight’s main event to take on Moxley. The winner of that bout would earn the right to compete at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door on June 26 to crown the Interim AEW World Champion.

As noted, the AEW World Champion CM Punk is currently out of action after suffering a broken foot last Wednesday. Punk was originally slated to defend the AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door against New Japan’s Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Tanahashi will now face Hirooki Goto at Dominion on June 12 to determine who will represent New Japan in the title match.

Update: In the main event on Wednesday, O’Reilly faced Moxley, and they waged war in a hard-fought battle. In the end, “The Purveyor of Violence” scored the win with the Paradigm Shift, so he’ll advance to Forbidden Door.
