Damian Priest: Rhea Ripley And I Were The First People Edge Wanted When He Pitched Judgment Day

The origin of The Judgment Day stable on WWE TV seemingly stayed true to the way it came together in real life.

WWE planted the first seeds of the faction at WrestleMania 38, where Damian Priest helped Edge defeat AJ Styles. When the WWE Hall of Famer faced “The Phenomenal One” in a rematch at WrestleMania Backlash, Rhea Ripley joined forces with Edge and Priest by costing Styles the bout. Since then, the trio has been named The Judgment Day, and they’ve had an impressive run on RAW up to this point.

In an interview with Rick Ucchino of the Bleav in Pro Wrestling Podcast, Priest discussed the formation of the group and described how Edge came to him with the idea, which included having “The Archer of Infamy” and “The Nightmare” as the stable’s first two members alongside the former world champion.

“The day Edge told me and asked me about the Judgment Day idea, and this is before we even had a name, it was just an idea forming a group… that day,” said Priest. “He said you naturally and Rhea Ripley. We were the first on his list, like hands down. He wanted us to be with him, which I thought was super cool, you know? He saw two people that had a certain style, that he digs. Similar to Edge. I mean, that’s that rock starish, goth, darker vibe, and bigger people. We just have this lot of similarities that he felt like he could mold us into becoming bigger stars than we were.”

Working alongside Edge is a high-pressure situation; the Hall of Famer’s storylines inherently carries more magnitude, given his track record. Priest noted that he knows he’ll have to prove himself alongside Ripley, and he’s confident that they’ll keep up the momentum. Moving forward, he’s excited about how the faction will lift him and “The Nightmare” up.

“Edge is gonna be Edge tomorrow,” said Priest. “Like he was yesterday. We are the ones that we have to prove ourselves. And I think so far, so good. And it’s just a matter of us keeping up that momentum. But yeah, we think about it all the time. Like the possibilities of how this is gonna elevate us. Rhea and I talk and we joke because we’re really good friends. So, we always think about like, man, this is really cool.”

In their first match as a trio, The Judgment Day will face Styles, Finn Balor and Liv Morgan at WWE Hell in a Cell on Sunday.
