Matt Cardona Confirms Bicep Surgery Date, Says He’ll Still Be At NWA Alwayz Ready

Matt Cardona is going to make sure he’s still at NWA Alwayz Ready, but it will be after he has surgery to repair a torn bicep.

Wednesday’s episode of Busted Open Radio saw Matt Cardona call in to give an update on his health after he announced he’d torn his bicep over the weekend. Cardona told Busted Open Radio’s Dave LaGreca, Tommy Dreamer and Mickie James that he’s going to have surgery on Tuesday, but he still plans to be at the NWA PPV next weekend.

“The doctor is suggesting surgery, which I will be getting on Tuesday, but there is no way I’m not coming to a pay-per-view named after me. I will be there. I don’t know what exactly is going to happen, I don’t know exactly what is going to go down. I’m going to be there, I’m going to have the Ten Pounds of Gold with me and that’s really Billy’s decision on what he wants to do.”

Tommy Dreamer advised Cardona to be careful traveling, noting how blood clots after surgery could lead to complications or even death. He said that Cardona could just put off the surgery, and Cardona said that’s something he did consider since it’s such a bad time to be on the shelf.

“Part of me wanted to just tape it up and work through it, but I want to be doing this for a long, long time, so it’s probably better that I get it taken care of right now. There is no good time to get hurt, but this certainly isn’t it. NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, having a pay-per-view named after me, just being the King of the Indies, the Deathmatch King, we have Slammiversary coming up. It is not a good time to get hurt, but shit happens, right?”

Cardona says he knew something was wrong immediately, noting that he could tell the muscle curled up right after the incident. He once again stressed that he will get it taken care of and heal up, but he’d be at the event if he had to drive, walk, crawl or fly.

Matt Cardona was injured during his recent match against Blake Christian at GCW Downward Spiral. Cardona and Christain were originally scheduled to meet in a rematch at GCW C.O.S., but that match looks to be off due to Cardona’s injury announcement. Additionally, Cardona was also scheduled to defend the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Nick Aldis at NWA Alwayz Ready, but that match will likely be tabled until a future date. It’s unclear how much time Cardona will miss due to the injury and recovery from surgery.
