Kris Statlander Advances To Semifinals Of Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, Bout Set For 5/27 AEW Rampage

Kris Statlander has advanced to the semifinals of the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament.

On the May 20 episode of AEW Rampage, Statlander, who replaced Hikaru Shida in the tournament due to the latter’s injury, faced Red Velvet in a quarterfinal bout. After a competitive battle, Statlander emerged victorious by countering a pin attempt from Velvet into one of her own.

Here’s how the match broke down, courtesy of our play-by-play coverage:

Statlander showcases her power early on, as she lifts her opponent with one arm. Velvet traps Statlander in the ring apron and unloads with a series of strikes. She grounds Statlander and plays to the Baddies Section at ringside. Velvet targets her opponent’s leg. Statlander rallies and gets a two count with a German suplex. She goes for a deadlift suplex, but Velvet counters and slams her to the mat. Velvet gets a near fall with the Final Slice. Statlander gets a two count with the Blue Thunder Bomb. Velvet gets another two count with an innovative face-first slam. Statlander hits a lariat. Velvet counters the Big Bang Theory into a roll-up, but Statlander rolls through it and scores the three count.

After the match, Ruby Soho, Statlander’s opponent in the next round, and Anna Jay saved her from a beatdown at the hands of Jade Cargill and The Baddies.

Statlander will face Soho on the May 27 episode of AEW Rampage. The winner will advance to the tournament finals at AEW Double or Nothing.
