Samoa Joe faced a mysterious Joker entrant in the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament on the May 18 episode of AEW Dynamite, and the reveal of his opponent surprised the wrestling world.
Joe came to the ring and waited the arrival of the mystery man. An unfamiliar theme song played, and “Johnny Elite” appeared on the video screen. Then, the former John Morrison, who has been going by Johnny Superstar recently in AAA, came to the ring. This bout marked Morrison’s AEW debut.

Elite threw everything he had at Joe and showcased his renowned high-flying offense. Joe overpowered the newcomer at every turn and floored him with a nasty chop. Elite countered the Muscle Buster and hit a 450 Splash for a two count. In the end, Joe blocked the Starship Pain and hit the Muscle Buster for the win. In the next round, he will face the winner of Rey Fenix vs. Kyle O’Reilly.

After the match, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satna Singh attacked Joe. Lethal blasted Joe’s arm with a pipe, but the Best Friends and Rocky Romero ran to the ring to prevent any further damage.
