CM Punk Makes Cameo On ‘Mayans M.C.’

CM Punk returned to the small screen in a new role on Tuesday night.

CM Punk made a surprise appearance on the May 3 episode of the FX series Mayans M.C. titled “A Crow Flew By”. Punk played a character named Paul, who previously served with Gilly (Vincent Vargas) in the military. Gilly showed up at Paul’s home during a birthday party to celebrate with his friends that served in the same unit.

Prior to the episode airing, Punk teased his appearance by posting a message on Twitter, imploring fans to watch the show (if they aren’t already).

“Y’all watch @MayansFX? Well, you should. #MayansFX,” Punk wrote.

Mayans M.C. creator Elgin James spoke to GameSpot about how CM Punk’s appearance on the Sons of Anarchy spin-off happened, noting that it was something they had in the works for a few years.

“Straight edge, bro,” James told GameSpot about how they first met. “We’re both on the straight edge world. We met a few years ago and I was just like, ‘Yo, I gotta do something with this dude. We gotta find something.'”

“We kind of crafted this for him actually,” James explained. “We knew we wanted to get into the storyline with Rocco and to do right by the veterans. And then we kind of were like, ‘well, what are the right ingredients to tell this story? And then this is a perfect opportunity to finally work with Phil. He’s the man.”

James went on to praise Punk’s ability to not only pull off the role on a physical level, but on an emotional one as well.

“They knew the heft of what they’re going to bring on and it was really emotional before that first day of shooting, Rocco talked to him for about an hour,'” James said. “We had some other veterans with us that are also on the show and that you’ve got you saw in there. And it’s pretty beautiful, they’re talking about their experience coming back and some of the challenges they face. So the weight was on Punk’s shoulders to do this right. And of course, there’s no one else you want that weight on because that dude’s just a savage. He just brought it, not only physically but also emotionally.”
