Drew McIntyre: I’m Glad Cody Rhodes Is Back In WWE, We’ve Followed Similar Paths

Drew McIntyre is happy that Cody Rhodes is back in WWE.

“The American Nightmare” returned at WWE WrestleMania 38, where he defeated Seth Rollins after he was revealed as the latter’s mystery opponent. Rhodes has been featured on WWE RAW ever since.

During an interview with Cultaholic, Drew McIntyre was asked how the mood in the locker room has been since Rhodes came back. In response, the former WWE Champion noted that the mood is the same, but he’s glad that his former tag team partner is a member of the WWE roster again.

“Personally I’m happy to see him back, and there’s a few of us that have been around for a few years now that are excited to see Cody back just because we’re buddies with him and with his talent he adds to the show, 100%,” said McIntyre. “And it’s cool to see how much he’s grown as a performer and as a person, much like myself. When I was gone from the company, I had to kinda go find who I was as a performer, kinda grow up as a man, and Cody’s done the exactly the same. And it’s cool. And I’d seen him before he came back and was aware of that. But it’s cool just to see him back in WWE.”

McIntyre went on to compare the paths he and Rhodes have followed; they didn’t reach the pinnacle of success in their first runs with the company, but they found themselves elsewhere before they returned.

“And I knew even when he was outside the company, he still had that chip on his shoulder like I did, in the back of his mind, man when I was younger, this is what was supposed to happen, as far as we concerned,” said McIntyre. “I don’t know how the company felt about it but we were supposed to be champion and we never did it. There’s always that in the back of your mind, you know, ‘What if? What could have been?’ I was lucky enough to come back, pull off the big win with the championship a couple of times, plan to get it again.

“I don’t have to say I know Cody feels the same, he literally did the promo where he said I’m back to win the title my dad never won. But I knew that was always something in the back of his mind because we both had very similar experiences with being young and kinda promised the world. But at the same time it kind of fell on us and we weren’t able to finish the job. And we had to go away to find ourselves to come back to then finish the job.”

Rhodes has quickly established himself as a top star on WWE RAW. He’s set to face Rollins in a rematch at WWE WrestleMania Backlash. As for McIntyre, he has been feuding with Sam Zayn in recent weeks on WWE SmackDown.
