Paul Heyman Explains Why He Doesn’t Like The Title Unification Concept

The looming Winner Take All Championship Unification match between WWE Champion Brock Lesnar and WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is being promoted as the biggest WrestleMania match of all time. But Paul Heyman, Reigns’ Special Counsel, doesn’t care for the concept of the bout in the first place.

During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Heyman stated that he doesn’t like the Champion vs. Champion idea in this case; he shared his belief that “The Tribal Chief” has already cemented his status as the one true champion in WWE.

“I don’t like the concept of title vs. title, I don’t like the concept of champion vs. champion, I don’t like the concept of Winner Take All,” said Heyman. “Because in my opinion Roman Reigns is already the end-all be-all. Roman Reigns is already the one that has taken it all. Roman Reigns is already the champion in WWE and every other title can fight for being in the number two position.”

Despite the high-profile nature of the clash between Lesnar and Reigns, some fans have criticized the booking of the match in the first place, as this very contest has already main-eveted two WrestleManias. Plus, the current versions of the two stars clashed at WWE Crown Jewel in October. Still, Heyman described how this chapter in the rivalry between the two stars will be fresh because it’ll be the first time “The Beast Incarnate” faces “The Tribal Chief”

“I think this is the first time you’re seeing at WrestleMania ‘The Beast’ Brock Lesnar against ‘The Tribal Chief,” said Heyman. “Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns, a two-time WrestleMania main-event presentation, very interesting match. But that’s Brock Lesnar, former NCAA Division-1 Heavyweight Champion, former UFC Heavyweight Champion, knocking out the greatest UFC Heavyweight Champion of all time Randy Couture. And already having defeated Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Ric Flair, and every other legend that has ever stepped into the ring with Brock Lesnar.

“And he’s against a Roman Reigns who’s main-eventing WrestleMania as he is still perfecting his craft. This is the first time you’ve ever seen at WrestleMania that same Brock Lesnar, still dominant, still the beast that conquered The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania, still on top of his game. Completely wiped out the heavyweight division on Monday Night RAW to regain the WWE Heavyweight Championship. But it’s the first time that Brock Lesnar has ever stepped into the ring with ‘The Tribal Chief’ Roman reigns. And I would dare suggest that ‘The Tribal Chief’ is head and shoulders above ‘The Big Dog’ Roman reigns. ‘The Big Dog’ Roman Reigns was a perennial WrestleMania main-eventer. The ‘Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns is the G.O.A.T., the greatest of all time, undisputed, uncontroverted, the best that has ever done this, the greatest that has ever been.”

Fans won’t have to wait too much longer to see this Winner Take All match; WrestleMania 38 is on April 2-3, and it will be held live at AT&T Stadium.
