WWE 2K22 is coming out in just a few weeks, but The Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins) are enjoying a real-life video game in their run on WWE RAW.
The duo has mixed it up with living legends like Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio during their time on the red brand, and the remarkable nature of this opportunity isn’t lost on them.
In an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, The Street Profits described the honor of sharing the ring with stars they grew up watching. Ford stated that it was “mind-blowing” and compared the experience to a real-life video game.
“I don’t want to make them sound old, but to grow up and watch and idolize these guys and to now compete against them is mind-blowing, man,” said Ford. “It’s not only something that you don’t expect to happen, but when it does happen, it’s like surreal. It’s a real-life video game.
“Just to be around them to gain knowledge of how they maneuver, their techniques, the pacing, the patience they have… it’s a blessing man.”
Likewise, Dawkins explained how working with these legends has helped them grow, as the veterans have plenty of experience and advice to share.
“If you told me when I started I’d be sharing the ring with Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton in the same week, I would have looked at you like ‘yeah, you crazy, dawg,'” said Dawkins. “I feel like wrestling those guys is very helpful to us because they have so much knowledge to give. And, they’re willing to give it and we’re willing to listen.
“They’re open to our ideas as well and to get that reception and for them to take us under their wing and stuff, it’s crazy.”
To elaborate, Dawkins noted that competing against names like Orton and Mysterio, among others, encourages him to step up and improve each and every time; this pressure drives him to elevate his game in order to prove he can hold his own with all-time greats.
“Also, when you go in there with them, you’re in that mindset like ‘man, better not suck! You better be on your A-game, dawg!’” said Dawkins. “Because if not, they’re going to expose you real quick and it ain’t gonna be a fun day. Being in the ring with those two legends is just taking it up to another level.”
Dawkins and Ford remain featured stars on WWE RAW, and they continue to chase more tag team gold.
