If you ask AJ Styles, The Miz is the best heel in all of wrestling.
“The Phenomenal One”, a former WWE Champion, has excelled at the highest level, both as a villain and as a lovable babyface. During his recent run on RAW, Styles turned back into a good guy following the break-up of his pairing with Omos. Due to this switch, the red brand lost one of its top heels, but Styles sees one member of the roster as the most remarkable villain in the business.
On the newest episode of Out of Character with Ryan Satin, Styles praised The Miz by stating that he’s unmatched in the way he understands how to be a heel. “The A-Lister” came up when “The Phenomenal One” was talking about his feud with NXT 2.0 star Grayson Waller, as Styles believes the two men have a lot in common.
“You wanna hate [Waller],” said Styles. “He reminds me of The Miz. In my opinion, I don’t care what anybody says, the best heel in the business is The Miz. He’s so good, and I tell him often that, ‘Man, you’re great. You’re so good. Nobody better.’ And I believe that.”
To elaborate, Styles explained that The Miz is the embodiment of what heels should want to be; they should aim to make fans spit on them and hate them. He then noted that having a strong heel makes storytelling in wrestling even easier, both for the babyface and in a general sense.
“To me, there’s no one who understands what a heel’s supposed to be like [better] than The Miz,” said Styles. “…That’s what I wanted to be. I’m just not as good as him. That’s what I wanna be, and that’s what heels should wanna be, they should not wanna be liked. They should wanna be spit on and all this stuff.
“That’s what we should strive for because with that emotion that you bring as a heel, [it] just makes whoever you’re working that much better. When you got a heel and you got a babyface, it’s easy. When you got a great storyline, it’s easy, everything’s gonna work out.”

Styles will compete for the WWE Championship at the Elimination Chamber premium live event, and it’s currently unclear how The Miz’s road to WrestleMania will unfold.
