Report: WWE NXT 2.0 Star Backstage Ahead Of 1/21 WWE SmackDown

One of the top stars on WWE NXT 2.0 is reportedly backstage ahead of the January 21 episode of WWE SmackDown.

Per Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Roderick Strong is at the venue ahead of the show; Johnson notes that Strong is scheduled to compete in a dark match.

The 38-year-old recently lost the NXT Cruiserweight Championship in a title unification match against Carmelo Hayes, and he also suffered a hard-fought loss to the man formerly known as WALTER this past week on NXT 2.0.

Fans have been speculating about a potential call-up for Strong for some time now; the veteran doesn’t exactly mesh the NXT 2.0’s emphasis on youth, and Strong has practically done it all on the brand. He’s a former North American Champion, and he also held the Tag Team Championship twice on the brand.

Update: Johnson also reported that NXT star LA Knight is also backstage at WWE SmackDown. Knight previously feuded with Cameron Grimes and held the Million Dollar Championship. Recently, he’s been feuding with Grayson Waller on WWE NXT 2.0. Before he signed with WWE, Knight was known as Eli Drake, and he held the IMPACT World Championship and the NWA World Tag Team Championship, among other titles.

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
