Bron Breakker Wins The NXT Championship At NXT New Year’s Evil

Bron Breakker officially became the face of NXT 2.0 at New Year’s Evil when he defeated Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship.

The “Son of Steiner” came out with a bit of pomp and circumstance as Breakker literally booted through the old black & gold “X” of the original NXT. Ciampa wasn’t outdone, though; he wore tie-dye colors that were symbolic of the NXT 2.0 brand. Then, WWE delivered a commercial-free main event of New Year’s Evil.

Breakker showcased his athleticism when he nailed an Arn Anderson spinebuster before hitting a standing moonsault, but hesitation to deliver a leaping bulldog allowed Ciampa to briefly change the course of the match. Breakker persevered and nearly broke Ciampa with a spear that left both men down.

The “breaking” continued when Breakker floored Ciampa through the broadcast table at ringside. The champion rallied and rocked Breakker with the Fairytale Ending, but the challenger just barely kicked out.

Breakker then paid tribute to his father, Rick Steiner with a leaping bulldog before he locked in Scott Steiner’s famous Steiner Recliner for the submission win.

Rick was in attendance to see his “pup become a Dog Faced Gremlin”, as announcer Vic Joseph put it. He celebrated with Breakker after the conclusion of the televised show.
