Eddie Kingston Recalls How Jon Moxley Tried To Help Get Him Into WWE

Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley were once bitter rivals on AEW programming, but in recent months, the duo have teamed up together and showcased their real-life friendship.

Moxley entered an inpatient alcohol treatment program in November, and fans continue to root for his recovery. Regardless of what his future in wrestling holds, the former AEW World Champion’s infuence on his friends and peers is undeniable.

In an interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Kingston discussed his friendship with Moxley and described the way the former Dean Ambrose has advocated for him over the years; for one example, he recalled how Moxley (unsuccessfully) tried to help Kingston land in WWE during his own time there. Kingston pointed out that this act of kindness came at a time when the two men hadn’t spoken in years.

“…Jon has been one of the biggest advocates for me in my whole career since we met,” said Kingston. “A lot of people don’t know that he was trying to get me into WWE years ago. Trying his best to do what he could. ‘Hey, I told this guy to check you out.’

“And this is me and Jon not talking for years and out of nowhere he’ll text me ‘Hey, I told so and so to watch your match from blah blah blah’ and I’ll be like ‘Who is this?’ And he’ll be like ‘Jon’ and I’ll be like ‘Oh hey, what’s up Mox?’ [laughs]. That’s the kind of friends we are.”

Kingston went on to express his gratitude to Moxley and emphasized that, even as someone who is selective with the people he calls “a friend”, the man known as “Mox” fits the bill.

“When we ran into each other when I got to AEW, he even said and I agreed ‘Eddie, it feels like I saw you two weeks ago,’ and at that time, we hadn’t seen each other in about eight or nine years.

“It’s just how our friendship is, but Jon is one of those dudes that I would be forever grateful for having him as a friend, and I don’t call a lot of people my friend. But he’s definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, one of them.”

Kingston continues to compete in AEW, and he remains a beloved star among the company’s passionate fans.
