Tony Khan Comments On WWE Having Interest In MJF And Re-Signing Kevin Owens

AEW President/General Manager Tony Khan doesn’t mind WWE‘s interest in one of his top stars, MJF. Instead, he encourages it.

MJF himself has noted that he could jump ship in a potential bidding war between the two companies when his contract is up in 2024, and he has brought up this possibility on AEW TV and in other interviews. WWE reportedly has its eye on the leader of The Pinnacle, who has rapidly become one of the brightest stars in wrestling during his time in AEW.

In an interview with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports, Khan explained that WWE’s interest in MJF is “great” because it generates even more buzz for AEW. He also brought up the fact that he has signed some of the competition’s Superstars, so it’d make sense that they’d want to bring in one of his most popular wrestlers.

“I think that’s great,” said Khan. “I encourage that. I think they should keep talking about him because he’s a wrestler that’s a big part of AEW and is signed here for a few more years,” Khan said. “So I think please keep giving us that buzz because he’s been getting great ratings for his segments and those have also been featuring CM Punk pretty regularly as they continue to interact.

“I think that’s great. You know, [WWE] had some wrestlers I really wanted to sign there and I signed him, Bryan Danielson and Adam [Cole] and Ruby Soho.”

Speaking of jumping ship, many fans expected Kevin Owens to leave WWE and sign with AEW when his contract expired next month. Instead, the ink is still drying on Owens’ new multi-year deal with Vince McMahon’s promotion. When asked about this outcome, Khan confirmed that Owens would have been on his radar and stated that this move, or lack thereof, is “great” for the former WWE Universal Champion.

“I would have been interested in that. He’s a great wrestler,” Khan said. “I think he ended up signing for what I believe is probably a lot of money. I think that’s great and good for him. We have a lot of people spotlighted here and he’s great. Any company he goes to he’ll be a great wrestler for them.”

Despite the fact that Owens is off the market, AEW still has an abundance of stars, like Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Darby Allin, and Hangman Page, that continue to compete for the company on a regular basis.
