Jonah Wants To Win The IWGP Heavyweight Title And Become ‘The Monster Of The Modern Era’

Jonah, formerly known as Bronson Reed in WWE, has hit the ground running in the aftermath of his release from the company. He’s already made a strong first impression in both New Japan Pro-Wrestling (under its NJPW STRONG brand) and IMPACT Wrestling, but the powerhouse has his sights set on some remarkable heights.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Jonah explained that his self-appointed nickname, the “Top Dog” represents his desire to be the best wherever he goes. Though travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic are preventing him from competing in Japan, he intends to do so because he wants to face NJPW’s major stars, such as Will Ospreay and Kazuchika Okada as part of his quest to win the promotion’s top prize.

“There’s a reason I call myself the ‘Top Dog,’” said Jonah. “I want to be the top anywhere I go. And as soon as I’m able to be in Japan, I’ll be there. I’ll work my way up the ladder and prove myself.

“I have my eye on certain titles, but if you’re in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, you want to be IWGP heavyweight champion. I know there is some debate right now as to whether that’s Shingo, Ospreay or Okada, but I want to face those three men and be the IWGP heavyweight champion.”

Otherwise, Jonah made it clear that he’s one of a kind, and he wants to become a modern-age “monster” throughout this new chapter of his career.

“I’m unlike anyone else in pro wrestling,” said Jonah. “I am going to be the monster of the modern era.”

Jonah recently competed at NJPW STRONG: Nemesis, and he has also been starring in IMPACT Wrestling since he arrived there. He’s set to face former IMPACT World Champion Josh Alexander on January 8.
