Bryan Danielson: I Don’t Think I’ve Turned Heel, But I ‘Enjoy Being Booed’

Bryan Danielson shocked the wrestling world when he showcased a more villainous side during a confrontation of Hangman Page on the November 17 episode of AEW Dynamite. He criticized the beloved AEW World Champion and vowed to beat up the Dark Order by saying he’d to kick their heads in.

During a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, which was taped prior to the November 24 episode of AEW Dynamite, Danielson shared his belief that his harsh comments about Hangman and his hometown crowd of Norfolk, Virginia, were fair. “The American Dragon” then stated that he made valid points and only gave the crowd a “little bit of a time time” because they were being hard on him.

“So I don’t know what people are talking about,” said Danielson. “I thought the people of Virginia were giving me a really tough time, and I gave them a little bit of a tough time back. I don’t think anything I said was wrong or even mean to say that, ‘Hey,’ like, ‘Hey, congratulations Hangman Adam Page. You are the world champion. I’m a little disappointed it’s not Kenny Omega because that’s who I wanted to beat for the AEW Championship, and I’m a little disappointed that you’re not wrestling tonight, and that you haven’t been wrestling that much, and I’ve been wrestling every single week since I’ve come back, since I’ve come to AEW.”

Danielson then emphasized his belief that he didn’t do anything cruel, but because he likes being booed, he plans to lean into that and make the most of it. Still, at the end of the day, the former world champion expressed his stance that he’s just being himself.r

“And I don’t think any of that is overtly mean, so yeah, I think because people boo me, and I’m not gonna lie, I do enjoy being booed, there’s something just so fun about it,” said Danielson. “So I might lean into that a little bit more, but like yeah there’s nothing I said that was wrong or mean or anything like that. Now, because of that, I’m probably gonna kick all of his friends’ heads in, and I think I would be doing that anyway, so you know, so yeah. I don’t consider it a heel turn. I’m just being me.”

On the November 24 episode of AEW Dynamite, Danielson handily defeated Colt Cabana and even kicked some of his teeth out of his mouth. In two clearly heelish moves, “The American Dragon” then mocked Hangman Page’s popular “Cowboy S—” catchphrase and backed down from a fight.
