Jonathan Gresham is with Ring of Honor until the end of the line.
With the news that Ring of Honor will be going on hiatus in the first quarter of 2022, many fans wonder where some of its top stars will wind up, considering the reports that the company won’t renew the contracts of its talent roster at the end of 2021. Gresham, a former ROH Pure Champion who’s widely viewed as one of the best wrestlers on the planet, is one of the most buzzworthy names on the roster, and fans have connected him to All Elite Wrestling since the news of ROH’s looming hiatus first shocked the wrestling world.
But don’t expect to see “The Octopus” follow in Jay Lethal’s footsteps and sign elsewhere in the near future.
In an interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, when asked about his contract status, Gresham made it clear that he’s staying with Ring of Honor, at least until his contract expires this December.
“I think everyone that knows anything about me knows that I am on this boat until it sinks,” said Gresham. “My contract will expire in December, but even with no contract, I am loyal to Ring of Honor right to the end.”
Gresham is known for his loyalty to ROH, and in the interview, he described how the company holds a particularly meaningful place in his life because it entirely changed the path he had been following. He noted that now, just a few weeks before he challenges for the ROH World Championshop at the Final Battle: End of an Era pay-per-view, he’s satisfied because he has already achieved his dream.
“Yeah, it definitely has been a huge part of my life,bBut Ring of Honor, I spoke about it before in our last interview, it changed my life,” said Gresham. “I was on a very different path and different road, getting in trouble and things like that, and then I found Ring of Honor. I was already a wrestling fan, then I found Ring of Honor and then I became obsessed. and I truly believe to change someone’s direction in life, they have to find something that they are just completely obsessed with. And they can’t put it down and can’t stop looking at it. And that kind of get them off that bad road that they’re on.
“And that’s happened with me with Ring of Honor. And so to be in the position I’m in now, it’s almost full circle for me. Win or loss, I have accomplished more than my dream.”
Fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for Gresham, but there’s no doubt that he’s had a remarkable career in ROH.
