Kenny Omega Vacates AAA Mega Championship Due To Injury

Kenny Omega has vacated the AAA Mega Championship.

On Monday, AAA Lucha Libre General Director Dorian Roldan announced Kenny Omega has relinquished the AAA Mega Championship due to injury and the title is now officially vacated.

Per Roldan (via translation):

Due to injury and surgery issues, @KennyOmegamanX may not be present at #TriplemaniaRegia; Therefore, as of this moment, the MegaChampionship of @luchalibreaaa remains vacant, with @vikingo_aaa as the first challenger; more news soon.

AAA President Marisela Peña also added the following:

We wish him a speedy recovery for @KennyOmegamanX. For our fans, very soon we will give you information about the stellar fight of #TriplemaniaRegia where we will crown a new Mega Champion

Omega held the title for 765 days, defending the championship on five occasions. F4WOnline.com’s Dave Meltzer first reported Kenny Omega would have multiple surgeries that would take him out of action at AAA TripleMania Regia II in December, adding that AAA was informed of the decision last Wednesday.

According to Meltzer, Omega will be getting surgeries on his shoulder, knee and abdomen and is evaluating a septum surgery as well, and Omega is hoping to return to AEW “in or around late February.” Omega had also been working with a torn labrum and an abdominal hernia for the past several months and recently revealed he’s been working with vertigo since 2018.

Omega lost the AEW World Championship to Hangman Adam Page at Full Gear, then appeared on the following episode of AEW Dynamite and wrote himself off of television in a backstage promo.
