Kenny Omega Reportedly Worked AEW Full Gear With A Hurt Shoulder (Updated)

Former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega reportedly worked AEW Full Gear with an injured shoulder.

Previous reports have indicated that Omega is banged up, but on the newest episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer described how Omega’s shoulders have been an issue lately. Per Meltzer, in a conversation with Omega, the former champion stated that he can’t lift heavy weights, though he can sill lift the bar. In this same conversation, “The Best Bout Machine” apparently told Meltzer that he can still performer without his shoulders at 100%.

Omega competed in the main event of AEW Full Gear; he defended the AEW World Championship against Hangman Page, and the fan-favorite star emerged victorious. “The Cleaner” won the title at AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming on Decembr 2, 2020, and he held the title for 346 days.

The day after AEW Full Gear, Omega appeared at The Big Event convention. But Eddie Kingston had to pull out of the event due to his own injury.

Update: Omega discussed his shoulder probems during a video where he got a chiropractic adjustment from Dr. Beau Hightower. In one highlight, he explains that he’s been dealing with bouts of vertigo since 2018, so he’s had to learn how to wrestle when the ring is spinning.

“Yeah, it’s been an issue since 2018,” said Omega. “I just get real bad vertigo, I get dizzy in the ring. The room spins and it’s been a new skill I’ve had to inherit, which is wrestling in a spinning ring. So to make sure I get that straightened out as much as I can as often I can is really paramount for my performance.”

Of course, injuries are commonplace in wrestling because performers constantly take risky bumps. In the video, Omega noted that even if you try to wrestle as safe as you can, injuries still happen.

“Yeah there’s a myriad of issues with professional wrestling and you can work as safe as you can, but you can’t avoid everything,” said Omega. “There’s always something that could go wrong.

Later in the video, as the adjustment was ending, Omega stated that he was feeling better, as he had an improved range of motion.

“Yeah, I mean one thing that I can say is I have a lot of difficulty just doing a straight side raise because of my shoulder injury,” said Omega. “I would have to really short of deviate to here to do anything. So to be able to go perfectly sideways is great. Yea,  my range of motion for looking is great. My neck is feeling good.”

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.
