Jeff Hardy On Changing His Character: ‘There’s Something That’s Waiting To Be Unleashed Within Me’

Jeff Hardy wants to “unleash” a darker side of the character he plays in WWE.

During a recent appearance on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, Hardy dropped several teases of his future. First, he explained that he’s been toying with some changes to his face paint as one way to change his presentation.

“I think there’s something really exciting to where I stop painting my face for a little bit,” said Hardy. “I’ve kind of started morphing that the last couple weeks, that I just leave a few little streaks of skin because I don’t know, I love of people like the paint and a lot of people don’t like the paint. But it’s interesting because I could do either thing.”

The former WWE Champion then described how he wants to focus more on his character now, as he’s not the same high-flying in-ring competitor that he used to be. He noted that there’s something within him that “needs to come out.”

“I think there’s something that I gotta figure out as well, and it’s kinda needed, because I don’t know how much longer I’m gonna be wrestling, but almost like a darker side of Jeff Hardy I think needs to come out,” said Hardy. “And I haven’t figured it out yet, but I have these crazy ideas. I’ve written down a few of them, but yeah, it’s my time to kind of focus more on the character stuff instead of the high-flying moves and the TLC matches and all that stuff because I think there’s something that’s waiting to be unleashed within me.”

When asked, Hardy stated that he’d be interested in becoming a heel, but he believes it’s hard to make fans hate him. With that in mind, he views the return of his Willow character as one exciting possibility that would display a different side of himself. He recalled how seeing the initial success of The Fiend somewhat inspired him due to both character’s supernatural qualities. Still, Hardy explained that he has to figure out the practical side of bringing Willow into the WWE world.

“I would be lying if I said that I don’t think about Willow all the time, especially when I saw The Fiend in real life and how cool that was,” said Hardy. “So that naturally got my wheels spinning. I’ve always talked about bringing Willow into WWE with a black wedding dress, all of these images I have in my head.

“But just, he looks awesome and he can do all this cool stuff in the ring, but like where does it go? what’s the longevity behind it all? That’s what I’m still kinda trying to work out in my imagination.”
