Rey Mysterio Doesn’t Want To Feud With Dominik, Passing The Torch Would ‘Mean Much More’

Rey Mysterio has heard talk about it, but he isn’t interested in feuding his son in the ring.

Dominik and Rey Mysterio were part of a recent WWE media day and were asked by talkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy about how Rey’s eventual transition out of the ring will go. There’s been some previous talk about Dominik using the name “Prince Mysterio” and passing on the mask, as well as speculation they could also feud down the line too. Rey said he hopes that when he finally hangs it up, he can pass on his mask and have his children, and possibly their children, carry on the legacy.

“I think in a perfect world, I would love to step out of the ring and just ‘pass the torch’ to my son. I know a lot of people talk about the possible turn where it’d be father versus son, for me, it would mean much more to take my mask off and say, ‘Here. It’s your time, I’m stepping away. Continue with this, write it.’ Hopefully one day, his kids, God willing, they decide to be part of this industry, or even my daughter’s kids, God willing. Somebody that can continue the legacy. I actually had no idea that he was going to want to be part of this world and he surprised me at a very late age, but he’s been doing incredible. I’m hoping that rich generation passes on,” Rey said.

Asked about how he feels, Dominik said it all really came as a surprise to him, but he hopes one day that he can be called “Rey Mysterio Jr.” since that’s a name that’s revered all around the world.

“Honestly, I was just happy to have ‘Mysterio’ behind me because I had no clue. I had just showed up one day and ‘Dominik Mysterio’ was popped up on the big screen, and I asked [my Dad], ‘Is that you?’ and he said no. It just happened organically, and it stuck. I liked it, and I’m of course, lineage-wise and culturally, with me being third-generation, ‘Rey Mysterio’ is him here in the [United] States, but ‘Rey Mysterio Jr.’ is something that’s… I don’t know the correct word for it, but I want it.”

Rey joked that it’s been with him now, so there’s no turning back, which got a pop from the room.
